“Our 2022 essays each showed a commitment to the value of a private college education in Kansas. We are so lucky that these students chose our network to begin their journey to purpose and success in the world,” says KICF President Matthew Lindsey upon the announcement of the 2022 scholarships. KICF is confident that these scholarships will help them complete a degree that is preparing them for a lifetime of professional and personal fulfillment. In fact, here are some perspectives on preparation for the future from our winners:

  • “[My] University does a great job in the careers services with helping students get internships and to help students get jobs right after college.”
  • “[My] institution has prepared me tremendously to be successful after graduation, from encounters with teachers to just getting out of my room to hang out with some friends. Two of the most efficient education classes that I took were classroom management and social-emotional development and trauma. These two classes taught me to understand why people think and behave the way they do will further someone else’s perspective and how they see things.”
  • “The communal aura that [my] College has to offer has never disappointed me. I have met people from all over the world, learned about their cultures, and have formed friendships that will last far longer than the time that I have at this institution. Through these [friendships], I have learned the importance of listening and engaging with different opinions and cultures. You will learn about your own beliefs and develop a respect for the perspectives of others. Not only has [my] College taught me the curricular information needed to be successful in my job after graduation, it has taught me how to be a mindful and empathetic member of society.”
The scholarship was established in 1995 through the generosity of Maud Wyatt, whose bequest has supported the work of KICF and its institutions since 1961. The Kansas Independent College Foundation seeks to develop, promote, and direct unified approaches to selected corporations, foundations, and individuals for financial support of Kansas’ independent colleges and universities.
