Swedes Sweep Threshers 

The Bethany College Softball team swept the Bethel College Threshers to open up conference play. The Swedes ended the first game in a run rule walk off in the fifth inning, 8-0. Bethany then beat Bethel 5-2 in game two. 

 

Game 1

 

Amaris Guerra started off in the bottom of the first inning hitting a double to the left center field gap. Shantell Evans then hits a double to right field, scoring Guerra. Melinda Cratty then hits a single to left field to score Evans, making the score 2-0. 

 

Marissa Riley started a rally in the bottom of the second by getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Kierstyn McMillen then reached on an error and advanced Riley to third base. Guerra then loaded the bases by taking a walk, followed up with Lilliana Martinez taking an RBI walk. Evans follows suit by taking another RBI walk. Cratty then hits a ground ball to the right side, scoring Guerra, updating the score to 5-0. 

 

Bethany pushed another run in the third inning, making the score 6-0. Destiny Espinosa led off the inning by reaching first on an error by the first baseman. Allison Rosa then hit a double to center field, scoring Espinosa. 

 

The Swedes then rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning with a lead off single by Espinosa. Espinosa advanced to second base on the same play, challenging the throw and sliding in safely to second. Riley then reached base on an error to shortstop, advancing Espinosa to third. Danielle Woolsey went in to run for Riley and stole second base, as a pickoff to third made Woolsey the only runner on base. Rosa took a walk and McMillen then singled, scoring Woolsey and advancing Rosa to third. Guerra loaded the bases with a walk, with the winning run of third base. Leah Rivera then cleared the bases with a double to center field, hitting a walk off to win the game 8-0. 

 

Sasha Martello led the swedes on the mound, throwing 5 complete innings. Martello allowed 5 hits, 0 runs, and collected 4 strikeouts. 

 

Amaris Guerra went 1-for-2 at the plate with 2 walks, and accounted for 3 of the Swedes' runs. Shantell Evans went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs, 1 walk, and scored once. Kierstyn McMillen went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and scored twice.  

 

Game 2

 

Bethany broke the shutout in the bottom of the third inning with a 3 run rally. McMillen reached on error and advanced to second base with a single hit by Guerra. Evans then singled to right field, scoring McMillen. Cratty then singled to left field, scoring Guerra and Evans, making the score 3-0. 

 

Threshers answered back and scored on a single, and a couple bad throws, making the score 3-1 in the top of the fourth. 

 

Swedes scored again in the bottom of the fifth. Guerra led off with a single to the center fielder and soon after stole second base. Evans hit a line drive to right field, allowing Guerra to tag up from second and advance to third base. Cratty then singled, scoring Guerra, making the score 4-1. 

 

Riley started off the bottom of the sixth with a double in the gap. Woolsey then went in to run for Riley and scored on a hit by Rosa, making the score 5-1. 

 

Bethel then hit 3 consecutive hits, scoring their first earned run of the day and making the score 5-2. The Swedes were then able to collect 3 outs without letting another run score, winning game two 5-2. 

 

Cambree Aguirre started on the mound and threw 6 innings, allowing 9 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Sasha Martello then came in to close the game, throwing 1 inning and collecting 2 strikeouts. 

 

Melinda Cratty went 2-for-3 at the plate, and collected 3 RBIs. Allison Rosa went 2-for-3 at the plate with 1 RBI. Amaris Guerra went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Shantell Evans went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and scored once.
